Heart Failure Management

Heart Failure (HF) is the number one cause of hospitalisation of patients over 65 years of age and the first cause of death in the elderly. Although HF is a stand-alone disease, it is perceived as a final complication of other diseases. But recent progress in HF has changed the outcome of this serious illness to reduce hospitalisation and mortality, and prolong life. What needs to follow is a change by the healthcare community in the overall approach to patient care.

But change is not an easy process. Although major steps have been taken with smart drugs, devices and surgery based on powerful medical evidence, implementing a team approach at a physician level is more complicated. Education is needed in two areas: firstly, on the use of the latest technology in the field and secondly, on the need to integrate a team around the patient’s primary caregivers including the HF specialist, cardiologist, echo-cardiologist and nurse.

The Institute for Therapy Advancement answers these needs by proposing courses which develop practical skills and innovative ways of thinking. All clinical cases and plenary sessions are practical and interactive, incorporating real-life situations to foster learning and discussion. Theoretical lessons are put into practice on top-level Virtual Reality and CathLab equipment.

A world-class clinical faculty from diverse backgrounds will challenge established ideas and present new ways of working. Participants experience first-hand the subspecialties of the faculty team in order to gain insight into the different facets of patient care and to improve group communication. This is the value that underpins the team approach – knowing what others are doing and how you fit into the patient’s overall care programme.
